Barbados Royals on Wednesday announced the appointment of South African batter, David Miller, as captain for the 2022 season of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL). Shouldering the added responsibility, the 32-year-old will be working closely with head coach Trevor Penney and Royals' Director of Cricket Kumar Sangakkara, with whom he has played under during his time at the Rajasthan Royals in the IPL.
West Indies batter Shai Hope on Sunday became the tenth batter to score a century in his 100th ODI. The stylish West Indies opener achieved this accomplishment during the second ODI against India at Queens' Park Oval at Port of Spain. He is also the fourth West Indies batter to do so. A six on the fourth delivery of 45th over bowled by spinner Yuzvendra Chahal took the batter to this memorable century.
India skipper Shikhar Dhawan praised his team's performance after registering a two-wicket win over West Indies in the second ODI. Half-centuries from Shreyas Iyer, Sanju Samson and Axar Patel helped Team India win the second ODI of the three-match series against West Indies by two wickets at Queens Park Oval stadium in Port of Spain on Sunday. "It was a great team performance. Boys didn't lose the self-belief, that is amazing. Iyer, Sanju, Axar everyone was amazing, Even Avesh came out in his debut game and scored those 11 important runs. Thanks to IPL, they perform on a huge stage. I felt that we bowled nicely," said Dhawan in a post-match presentation.
Jos Buttler said on Friday his appointment as England's new white-ball captain could spell the end of his Test career. Buttler succeeded Eoin Morgan as England skipper in the one-day international and Twenty20 formats after the 2019 50-over World Cup-winning captain announced his retirement from international cricket on Tuesday. The dynamic 31-year-old wicketkeeper-batsman had been vice-captain to Morgan, who cut short his Test career to focus on white-ball cricket, since 2015. World Cup winner Buttler, a star of the Indian Premier League, is a formidable run-scorer in limited overs cricket, where his fierce hitting has helped him compile 4,120 runs from 151 ODIs, including 10 hundreds.
Jos Buttler has downplayed the prospect of becoming an opener for the England Test team after he was touted for the role by ex-Sri Lanka skipper Kumar Sangakkara. Sangakkara this week said Buttler, who top-scored in the Indian Premier League (IPL) this season with 863 runs, could be a perfect fit for the Test team's newfound swashbuckling style under Ben Stokes and Brendon McCullum.
