Mark Cavendish endured another tough day at the Giro d’Italia, as he came home over 18 minutes behind stage winner Mads Pedersen after suffering another crash. The Briton was involved in a high-speed tumble at the end of Stage 5, but picked himself up to take the start line on Stage 6.
Denmark's Mads Pedersen won a sprint finish on stage six of the Giro d'Italia in Naples to complete the grand slam of Grand Tour victories. Veteran Australian Clarke and De Marchi had made their attack on the Picco Sant'Angelo climb, continuing to push on to stretch the advantage to more than two minutes heading into the final 30km.
Mads Pedersen of Trek–Segafredo held his nerve to win stage six of the Giro d'Italia in the final sprint on Thursday after the peloton caught up with a breakaway duo of Simon Clarke and Alessandro De Marchi 300 metres from the finish.

It's a Napolitano day at the Giro d’Italia! Stage 6 on Thursday, May 11 sees the riders start and finish in Naples as Remco Evenepoel (Soudal-QuickStep) seeks to bounce back from his double crash on Wednesday. The Belgian favourite appeared to be out of the race after hitting the deck when a dog ran into the peloton, but after spending over a minute on the tarmac he belatedly returned to the saddle. But the drama was not over.
Remco Evenepoel is in a “lot of pain” following two crashes on a rain-soaked Stage 5 of the Giro d’Italia and faces a “difficult day” tomorrow, according to Soudal Quick-Step doctor Toon Cruyt. Vuelta a Espana champion Evenepoel is one of the favourites to win the Giro and wore the pink leader’s jersey until the end of Stage 4. Ad But his hopes took a hit as he fell twice on Stage 5, firstly when a dog ran into the road and then again just 2.5km from the finish.
