Don't Think Virat Kohli Going Through A Lean Patch: India Batting Coach Vikram Rathour Ahead Of West Indies T20Is

Virat Kohli's prolonged lean patch is not a concern for the Indian team, batting coach Vikram Rathour said on Monday, expressing confidence that the superstar batter would be back among runs in the upcoming T20I series against West Indies in Kolkata. The 33-year-old, whose tenure as India captain across formats came to an end last month, had a disappointing run in the recently-concluded three match ODI series with a total score of 26 runs at an average of 8.6 with a best of 18.

IPL Auction 2022: Late show helps Kolkata Knight Riders get house in order

Kolkata Knight Riders lived up to the saying by setting up their house quite nicely in a late flourish at the IPL player's auction in Bengaluru on Sunday. At the end of two long days of bidding, the city-based franchise ended up building up a squad of 25 players that includes eight foreigners. The team management went about in a strategic manner without going very big for any of the players, but at the same time ending up with a balanced side with at least one for all position. KKR entered the accelerated auction phase with the highest remaining purse and made full use of it to shape up their squad. IPL AUCTION: AS IT HAPPENEDInterestingly the team formed a very good leadership group in Shreyas Iyer, Pat Cummins and Ajinkya Rahane, picking up the last mentioned on Sunday at his base price of Rs 1 crore. While it looks like KKR would opt for Rahane to open with retained player Venkatesh Iyer, getting England's Alex Hales late in the day provides them with another good opening option. The side's wicket-keeping slot, which was a bit vulnerable with only Sheldon Jackson and Baba Indrajith, looks bright now with the acquisition of England's Sam Billings. They also did well to pick New Zealand pacer Tim Southee, who can act as a back-up for Cummins, from the accelerated list.

IPL Auction 2022: Punjab Kings buy Liam Livingstone for Rs 11.5 crore; Mumbai Indians fork out Rs 8 crore for Jofra Archer

Punjab Kings went in with the biggest pool of Rs 28.65 crore while Lucknow Super Giants, who had a busy Saturday, were left with the least amount of money - Rs 6.90 crore. While most franchises chose to wait and watch, Punjab splurged on two players. At Rs 11.5 crore, Englishman Liam Livingstone became the most expensive overseas buy while the current flavour from West Indies, Odean Smith, was bought for Rs 6 crore. IPL AUCTION: AS IT HAPPENEDGiven the limited resources, bidding wasn't frenzied but teams moved with purpose to acquire players they had targeted. Eventually, 204 players, including 67 overseas cricketers, were brought, with the total spending in the auction touching Rs 551.7 crore. Livingstone's stint with Rajasthan Royals yielded just 42 runs from five innings last year but he ensured a bidding war with Kolkata Knight Riders making the opening bid and Chennai Super Kings jumping into the fray. Punjab and Gujarat Titans too threw their hats in the ring. Punjab almost had him at Rs 10. 25 crore but Sunrisers Hyderabad upped the price tag, till Punjab had the final say but at an additional cost of Rs 1.25 crore.

Arjun Tendulkar was bought by Mumbai Indians (MI) for Rs 30 lakh in the Indian Premier League 2022 (IPL 2022) mega auction in Bengaluru on Sunday. Son of Indian cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar, Arjun had been picked up by Mumbai Indians for Rs 20 lakh in 2021.
