Mohammed Siraj Recalls Time When Virat Kohli Gave Him His "Life's Best Surprise"

Former India captain Virat Kohli has millions of fans across the country, having rose through the ranks to become one of the greatest cricketers of all time. Kohli, who is hailed as one of the best batters in modern-day cricket, is not just popular among the fans of the sport in India but also among many of his teammates. India pacer Mohammed Siraj recently underlined the same when he recalled a visit from Kohli to his Hyderabad home. Siraj broke into the national team during Kohli's stint as India captain.

World record: Bihar lad Sakibul Gani hits 341 on debut in Ranji Trophy

Bihar found itself under the spotlight on Friday when local lad Shakibul Gani (22) scripted cricketing history, hitting a triple century on first-class debut --- the first in the world to do so. In the Ranji Plate tie against Mizoram in Kolkata, he blazed 341 runs off 405 balls, eclipsing the previous record of MP’s Ajay Rohera (unbeaten 267 against Hyderabad in 2018).

Bihar batter Sakibul Gani smashes 341, highest score on FC debut

Sakibul Gani smashed an astounding 341 in the Ranji Trophy Plate Group match against Mizoram here on Friday to break the world record for the highest individual score on first-class debut. The 22-year-old, who was unbeaten on 136 overnight, toyed with the lacklustre Mizoram attack hitting 56 fours and two sixes to get to 341 off 405 balls. Madhya Pradesh's Ajay Rohera earlier held the record for the highest individual score on debut when he had scored an unbeaten 267 against Hyderabad in Indore in December 2018.

Unhappy Simon Katich resigns as SRH assistant coach over baffling buys at IPL auction

Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Sunrisers Hyderabad is once again in the news for all the wrong reasons after former Australian batter Simon Katich resigned from the post of assistant coach, reportedly being unhappy with some of the side's hefty auction buys. Katich, who along with West Indies legend Brian Lara and former India batter Hemang Badani, were added to the SRH coaching group headed by Tom Moody and Muttah Muralitharan, resigned immediately after the auction. The SRH management, headed by Kavya Maran, hasn't yet issued any public statement whether Katich's resignation has been accepted or if he will be requested to reconsider his decision. 'The Australian' reported that Katich's resignation was primarily due to the fact that the pre-auction strategy discussed wasn't followed at the two-day auction where SRH had some whopping big buys like Nicholas Pooran (Rs 10.75 crore), Washington Sundar (Rs 8.75 crore) and Rahul Tripathi (Rs 8.50 crore). Some of the SRH big buys have been baffling, although it's not always a player's quality but the auction dynamics that determine the final price of a player.

Ranji Trophy: Chandigarh bowlers keep Hyderabad in control on Day 1

Jagjit Singh and debutant Rajangad Bawa shared five wickets between them to restrict Hyderabad to 270 for 7 at stumps on the opening day of their Elite Group B first round Ranji Trophy match in Cuttack on Thursday. Off-spinner Gaurav Gambhir also chipped in with a couple of wickets, including the all-important scalp of a well set India’s Test star Hanuma Vihari. Coming in at No.3, Vihari top-scored for Hyderabad with a sedate 59 off 134 balls, comprising eight hits to the fence. Ahead of the contest, Chandigarh handed debut caps to the trio of all-rounder Rajangad Bawa, wicketkeeper-batter Arjit Pannu and middle order batter Gaurav Puri. On a track that promised good carry and bounce for the pacers early on, Chandigarh skipper Manan Vohra put Hyderabad in to bat. Vohra’s decision yielded quick results as Rajangad, brought in as the first change bowler, lived up to his skipper’s trust by removing the Hyderabad openers Tanmay Agarwal and Akshath Reddy after the duo got to decent starts. While skipper Agarwal scored 16 off 45 balls, Akshath got 28 off 56 before Raj got into the cleaning act with Arjit’s safe hands behind the stumps taking care of the rest.

Simon Katich Quits SunRisers Hyderabad After Franchise Ignores Pre-Auction Plans: Report

Former Australia batter Simon Katich has quit the Indian Premier League (IPL) SunRisers Hyderabad less than two months before the tournament starts. As per a report in 'The Australian', Katich decided to walk out after a disagreement on how the team was being managed and he also felt that the franchise disregarded the pre-auction plans. Earlier, SunRisers Hyderabad was involved in a major controversy after they sacked David Warner as captain last season and then the batter was even ousted from the playing XI.
