BEIJING (AP) — Mikaela Shiffrin completed the super-G at the Beijing Olympics on Friday in a time way out of medal contention — but for the first time in three races at the 2022 Games, she made it to the finish.
Fifteen-year-old Russian figure skater Kamila Valieva faces being thrown out of the Winter Olympics after the International Testing Agency confirmed she tested positive for a banned heart medication in December.
The case will be decided by the Court of Arbitration for Sport before February 15, when the 15-year-old is scheduled to take part in the individual event at the Olympics, the International Testing Agency (ITA) said in a statement.
Mikaela Shiffrin is taking the positives from her ninth-placed finish in the women’s super-G at the Beijing Olympic Games. There were doubts as to whether Shiffrin would be at the starting gate after two DNFs in the slalom and giant slalom. Ad/> She finished 0.79 seconds behind winner Lara Gut-Behrami, but the American felt she started to line up on her skis again and is looking forward to the remainder of the Games with a positive mindset.
Disappointment was mixed with relief as Shaun White brought the curtain down on his stellar Olympic career without picking up a medal. Snowboard halfpipe’s GOAT had high hopes of signing off at the age of 35 with a fourth gold medal. Ad/> It was not to be, as the brilliance was not there and he finished down in fourth behind Ayumu Hirano of Japan.
Mikaela Shiffrin's smile at the finish was as big as if she had won the race.
BEIJING : A day after taking a bronze medal at the Beijing Games, Japanese figure skater Shoma Uno said he would keep working to go higher "to be like Nathan (Chen)" without the baggage of expectation that has swirled around countryman Yuzuru Hanyu for years.
