Ahead of the awards ceremony for TOISA 2021, the jury meet was held in the capital on September 22. As always the TOISA jury had distinguished sports personalities. This time the jury included the likes of cricket all-rounder and member of the 1983 World Cup winning team Madan Lal, Olympic medal winning shooter Gagan Narang, former hockey captain and Haryana sports Minister Sandeep Singh, veteran Indian athlete Anju Bobby George who was the first Indian athlete to win an athletics World Championships medal, Paralympic Games silver medallist Deepa Malik and Olympic medal winning boxer Vijender Singh. The man who dismissed Vivian Richards in the 1983 World Cup final had incredible figures of 3/31 in that match, which saw India win their first ever cricket World Cup title. He took the wickets of Desmond Haynes, Viv Richards and Larry Gomes, breaking the back of the West Indian batting. In an international career spanning 13 years, Lal played 39 Tests and 67 ODIs for India. His best bowling figures in Test cricket were 5/23 and in ODIs - 4/20. He also scored over 1000 runs in Test cricket, with 5 half-centuries. Fondly called 'Maddi paa', he was one of India's big heroes of the 1983 World Cup triumph, finishing as the joint second highest wicket taker of the tournament with 17 wickets. He has also been a cricket coach and a selector.
