KL Rahul, Axar Patel ruled out of T20I series against West Indies

KL Rahul and all-rounder Axar Patel were on Friday ruled out of the three-match T20I series against the West Indies beginning in Kolkata from February 16 due to injuries with Ruturaj Gaikwad and Deepak Hooda replacing them in the squad. While Rahul has suffered a hamstring injury while fielding in the second ODI on February 9, Axar has not fully recovered from his shin injury that also forced him to miss the South Africa tour. The spinner had also recently tested positive for Covid, said the BCCI.

KL Rahul and Axar Patel have been ruled out of upcoming T20I series against West Indies, with Ruturaj Gaikwad and Deepak Hooda being named as replacements for the duo. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) made the announcement in a press release on Friday evening. "Vice-captain KL Rahul and all-rounder Axar Patel have been ruled out of the upcoming three-match T20I series against the West Indies to be played in Kolkata from 16th February, 2022," the BCCI stated in the press release.

Rahane is an out and out Test cricketer only. That viewpoint has gained traction over the years, with Rahane losing his spot in the Indian limited overs sides. He hasn't played an ODI since February 2018 and a T20I since August 2016. But Rahane has been putting in the hard yards in domestic limited overs cricket. He sent the bowlers to the cleaners in the last edition of the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 tournament. Rahane was the highest run-getter for Mumbai and third-highest overall, scoring 286 runs in just 5 outings at an average of 57.20. He also had the joint-most number of half-centuries in the tournament - four and recorded the highest partnership of 151 runs with Prithvi Shaw (against Baroda) in the tournament.
