Ahead of the first Test match between India and England at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad, skipper Rohit Sharma on Wednesday said that they are not interested in how their opposition is going to play. While speaking at the pre-match press conference, Rohit was asked about England's 'Bazball' to which the 36-year-old said that they are more focused on what they can do as a team. "We will look to play our cricket. I am not interested in how the opposition is going to play. I am focused on what we want to do as a team," Rohit said.
Uncapped spinner Shoaib Bashir was effectively ruled out of the first Test of England's tour of India on Tuesday after he was forced to return home to resolve visa issues. Surrey-born Bashir, a 20-year-old player of Pakistani heritage, was unable to join the rest of the squad flying to India from a training camp in Abu Dhabi ahead of the series opener in Hyderabad starting Thursday following a delay with his visa application. The England and Wales Cricket Board had hoped they could count on assistance from their counterparts at the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) in resolving the issue but things didn't go the way they expected it to be.
England's spinner Shoaib Bashir has eventually received his Indian visa after the initial refusal from New Delhi. The player is set to travel to India and join up with the team by this weekend, informed England Cricket on Wednesday. "We're glad the situation has now been resolved," the board added. The issue hogged limelight as the England cricket team in December had announced its squad for the five-match Test series in India, giving enough time for the visa processing of the players. However, Bashir, who is from Pakistani heritage, failed to get an approval intially which saw him being unavailable for the first Test, starting January 25 in Hyderabad.
Manchester United forward Anthony Martial has been ruled out until April after undergoing surgery on a groin injury.
