Russia’s world No. 1 Daniil Medvedev said he is unsure whether he will be allowed to continue playing but wants to promote his sport. The ATP and WTA condemned Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in a joint statement last week, banning Russian athletes from team events and ruling that individuals can compete on the tour but not under the name of their flag or country.

LONDON :Former Russian Formula One driver Nikita Mazepin joined his oligarch father Dmitry on an EU sanctions blacklist on Wednesday after being fired by the U.S.-owned Haas team last week following his country's invasion of Ukraine.
Russian driver Nikita Mazepin, sacked by Formula One outfit Haas, is creating a foundation to help sportspeople who have found themselves barred from competing due to "political reasons out of their control". Mazepin and Haas's Russian title sponsor Uralkali had their contracts terminated last Saturday as a result of Russia's invasion of Ukraine. Mazepin's father Dmitry is a non-executive director of Uralkali, a group specialising in potash. Nikita Mazepin, 23, said the funds for the 'We compete as one' foundation would come from the money that Uralkali would have paid Haas.
Nikita Mazepin admits he heard about his sacking from Haas via the media and stressed that he was unfairly dismissed by the team. Sporting governing bodies were being put under increasing pressure to ban Russian competitors after the country’s invasion of Ukraine, but the FIA had a softer stance and were prepared to give Russian and Belarusian drivers neutral status. Ad/> However, the Daily Mail reports that the tipping point appeared to come after Motorsport UK announced Russian-linked competitors would not be able to compete at the British Grand Prix, prompting the decision for Mazepin’s contract to be terminated by Haas.
