After not featuring last year at SW19 due to the ban on Russian and Belarusian players, it has been quite the comeback for the seventh seed, who has beaten Aslan Karatsev, David Goffin and now Bublik on his route to the last eight. Ad Discussing the remarkable rally that took him to 40-15 in the last game, Rublev said on court: «It was the most lucky shot ever! LONDON : Order of play on the main show courts on the eighth day of the Wimbledon championships on Monday (prefix number denotes seeding):
Elina Svitolina's clash against Belarusian Victoria Azarenka at Wimbledon is more than just a match between two mothers on the Tour after the Ukrainian drew battle lines ahead of Sunday's fourth round meeting on Court One.
Aryna Sabalenka saw off Anna Blinkova 6-2 6-3 in their third-round encounter on Saturday afternoon at Wimbledon. The No. 2 seed is now into the fourth round following victory over her Russian opponent.
Up to 500 Russian and Belarusian athletes will be allowed to compete as neutrals at the Asian Games in China later this year, organisers said Saturday. Both countries have been excluded from many sports events since Moscow's invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, though individual athletes have since been allowed to compete under certain restrictions. The International Olympic Committee (IOC) earlier this year said that a pathway for their athletes' participation in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games should be explored.
Stoltenberg also stressed that despite claims to the contrary, Ukraine is making progress on the battlefield. He said Western countries were stepping up their weapons deliveries, pointing to the delivery of long-range missiles by the UK, which "is making a difference". He noted that that the training of Ukrainian pilots on F16 fighter jets had begun. While he refused to predict a Ukrainian victory in the coming months, he stated that "Ukraine has the equipment, the training, the ammunition" needed and that NATO is committed to supplying them.
Aryna Sabalenka survived a scare to reach the third round at Wimbledon, coming from a set down to beat French youngster Varvara Gracheva. The second seed found herself in serious trouble after surrendering the opening set, but she grit her teeth to launch a fightback and eventually triumph 2-6 7-5 6-2. Ad It was far from a complete performance from the Australian Open champion, who was unable to compete at the All England Club last year due to the tournament’s ban of Russian and Belarusian players.
