South Africa vs Bangladesh, 2nd Test, Day 2, Live Score Updates: Half-centuries from captain Dean Elgar, Temba Bavuma and Keegan Petersen had helped South Africa reach 278/5 at Stumps on Day 1 of the second Test against Bangladesh. Now, the hosts would hope for the overnight batters Kyle Verreynne and Wiaan Mulder to pile on the runs and make Bangladesh sweat it out in the middle. Taijul Islam was the pick of the bowlers on Day 1, with three wickets, while Khaled Ahmed claimed the other two scalps. The visitors had displayed glimpses of brilliance at the start of the first Test but fizzled out as hosts South Africa registered a thumping 220-run win in the opening Test. (LIVE SCORECARD)
Proteas batter Keegan Petersen says his side's failure to convert to centuries is becoming an issue they're aware of following the opening day of the second Test against Bangladesh at St George's Park.
Bangladesh left-arm spin bowler Taijul Islam took three wickets and prevented South Africa from dominating the first day of the second Test at St George's Park in Gqeberha on Friday. Dean Elgar (70), Keegan Petersen (64) and Temba Bavuma (67) made half-centuries as South Africa made 278 for five after winning the toss. Taijul took three for 77 in 32 overs. He bowled unchanged from before lunch until after tea in a first spell of two for 63 in 24 overs.
Bangladesh's persistence was rewarded with two late wickets as South Africa went to stumps on 278 for 5 on the opening day of the second and final Test on Friday. Three South African batters made half-centuries after the home team chose to bat first at St. George's Park, but none of them went on to a big score and Bangladesh took something from the day by removing Ryan Rickelton (42) and Temba Bavuma (67) in the space of three overs just before the close.
