Mohammad Nabi Becomes No 1 All-Rounder In One Day International ICC Rankings

Afghanistan all-rounder Mohammed Nabi on Wednesday became the oldest player to headline the ICC ODI all-rounders' list, ending Shakib Al Hasan's long reign at the top. There is little to no change at the top of the Test rankings with India's Jasprit Bumrah firmly perched at the top of the bowlers' list. India's Ravindra Jadeja, who is set to return in the third Test against England beginning Thursday, still led the way comprehensively in Test all-rounders' rankings. Nabi reached the No.1 spot following his 136 during the opening match of Afghanistan's three-match ODI series against Sri Lanka, while the 39-year-old also picked up a wicket in the same contest to gain one place and move to seventh on the latest rankings for ODI bowlers.

South Africa's experienced spinner Imran Tahir completed 500 wickets in the T20 format and became just the fourth player to achieve the remarkable feat. The 44-year-old completed the feat during the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) clash between Rangpur Riders and Khulna Tigers. He played a crucial role in Rangpur's victory with his figure of 5/26 in his four-over spell. With this five-wicket haul, he joined the elite company of Dwayne Bravo, Rashid Khan and Sunil Narine. Former West Indies skipper DJ Bravo leads the chart with 624 wickets in 571 appearances in the T20 format. Afghanistan's ace spinner Rashid Khan has scalped 556 wickets in 410 matches and West Indies mystery spinner Sunil Narine sits on the third spot with 532 wickets to his name.

Veteran Bangladesh batter Tamim Iqbal has been left out of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) central contract list for the year 2024. The BCB announced the contracts on Monday and former captain was one of the biggest omissions in Bangladesh cricket governing body's central contract list for 2024. Tamim had a turbulent 2023 after announcing his retirement in the lead-up to the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup, changing his mind in less than a day, and then resigning as captain two months before the big event. In addition to Tamim, the individuals on the central contracts list that are not included include Ebadot, Afif, and Mosaddek Hossain. Towhid Hridoy, Tanzim Hasan, Mahmudul Hasan Joy, Naeem Hasan, and Nurul Hasan are some of the newcomers for 2024. The newly-appointed captain, Najmul Hossain Shanto, received an all-format deal, along with Shoriful Islam.

Bangladesh Recall Mahmudullah, Taijul Islam For Sri Lanka T20Is

Bangladesh on Tuesday recalled batsman Mahmudullah Riyad and Taijul Islam to their Twenty20 international squad for the three-match series against Sri Lanka in March. Former captain Mahmudullah last played a T20I against Zimbabwe in 2021, but did well in the ongoing Bangladesh Premier League to force his way back into the squad. Left-arm spinner Taijul played the last of his two T20Is in 2019. Opening duo Anamul Haque and Mohammad Naim also returned to the squad on the back of a strong showing in the BPL.

Tamim Iqbal Left Out Of BCB's Central Contracts List

Out-of-favour Bangladesh opener Tamim Iqbal has been excluded from the BCB's central contracts list for 2024, putting a question mark on the veteran cricketer's international future. Former captain Tamim, who had retired from international cricket in July last year, had reversed his decision within 24 hours after Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina asked him to continue. Tamim's decision to quit the game was because of his worsening relationship with the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president Nazmul Hassan, who had questioned the left-handed batter's professionalism.

Bangladesh on Monday reappointed Najmul Hossain Shanto as national cricket captain for all three formats for the coming year due to uncertainty over the availability of regular choice Shakib Al Hasan. Najmul, 25, a top order batter, led Bangladesh in their last two series against New Zealand at home and away, but he had been expected to hand over the charge to Shakib. "Shakib was obviously our first choice as captain, but we did not want to live with any uncertainty," Bangladesh Cricket Board president Nazmul Hassan told reporters.
