JEDDAH: More than 200 women and girls on Friday took part in an outreach females’ event organized by Golf Saudi at the Royal Greens Golf and Country Club in King Abdullah Economic City, near Jeddah. Titled Ladies’ Day, the event took place on the sidelines of the Aramco Saudi Ladies International, and was aimed at celebrating International Women’s Day which takes place on March 8 every year. The event also aimed to provide Saudi women the opportunity to learn how to play golf for the first time. Activities on offer included private shuttles, free ice cream, drinks and food, and introductory lessons. Three golf clinics led by professional players took place, with each group given the chance to enjoy introductory lessons on how to stand, hold a golf club, and where to position the ball properly.

The season-opening Formula One Bahrain Grand Prix will be taking place on Sunday, at the Bahrain International Circuit. Max Verstappen clocked the fastest lap in the third and final practice session to top the practice session on Saturday and Lewis Hamilton was in sixth place. Verstappen clocked 1 minute 32.544 seconds, 0.096 seconds quicker than Charles Leclerc's Ferrari, while Sergio Perez finished third in the second Red Bull. Meanwhile, the Mercedes duo of George Russell and Hamilton ended at fourth and sixth, with Carlos Sainz in-between.
Mercedes driver George Russell has revealed that pushing too hard on his outlap led to a lock-up in turn one for his final qualifying run, and that is why he will start from P9 for tomorrow’s Bahrain Grand Prix.
Charles Leclerc has already won two Grand Prix, but this could be the season he becomes a credible Formula 1 title challenger after years in the wilderness. It is, of course, early. This is one qualifying session, and there is plenty more to come.
Mercedes boss Toto Wolff believes that his team could lose half a second every lap to Red Bull and Ferrari. The Austrian and Italian teams have grown into the circuit and new season regulations since they arrived in Bahrain, first for last weekend’s testing sessions, and now at Free Practice and qualifying.
Leclerc beat Red Bull driver Max Verstappen to the top spot in qualifying for this year’s season opener, while Ferrari-powered Alfa and Haas – the teams that finished second-to-last and last in the 2021 constructors’ standings – finished sixth and seventh with Valtteri Bottas and Kevin Magnussen.
