Adam Griffith has been appointed as Cricket Australia's new national pace bowling coach. The former Tasmania first-class cricketer will work with the country's men's teams, focusing on the development and preparation of pace bowlers, said Cricket Australia (CA) on Friday. Griffith transitions to this role from his position as assistant coach of Victoria. Based at CA's National Cricket Centre in Brisbane, he will oversee a range of responsibilities, including leading the national strategy for pace bowler development, managing the preparation of national pacers, supporting the Australian men's and Australia A men's teams, and mentoring pace bowling coaches.

Star batter Smriti Mandhana and all-rounder Deepti Sharma were on Friday named in the ICC women's ODI Team of the Year 2024 but none of their male counterparts found a place in the men's side that was dominated by Sri Lanka, Pakistan and Afghanistan. The women's all-star team has three players from England, two Australians, two South Africans and one each from Sri Lanka and West Indies, besides the two Indians. The 28-year-old Mandhana accumulated 747 runs in 13 matches to be the highest run-scorer in women's ODIs in 2024. She is also in the running for the ICC Women's ODI Cricketer of the Year 2024 award.

Wildcards John Peers and Olivia Gadecki were crowned Australian Open mixed doubles champions on Friday, outlasting fellow Australians Kimberly Birrell and John-Patrick Smith. Peers and Gadecki came through 3-6, 6-4, 10-6 in the first all-Australian final at the opening Grand Slam of the year since 1967. It was a first Slam title for Gadecki and the third for Peers, who claimed the men's doubles at Melbourne Park in 2017 and the mixed doubles at the 2022 US Open.
