India vs South Africa: 5 Indian Players For Whom South Africa T20Is Could Be Crucial

After over two months of hectic Indian Premier League (IPL), the Indian cricket team players are gearing up for the five-match T20I series against the South African cricket team, starting on Thursday. The series will be among the build-up contests that India will take part in as they look to find the perfect combination for the 2022 T20 World in Australia in October-November. Most of the senior members including Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and Jasprit Bumrah have been rested while KL Rahul will lead the side. The series presents a great chance to the likes of Arshdeep Singh, Umran Malik and Dinesh Karthik make their case stronger for a longer run.

Late deflected strike keeps Australia's FIFA World Cup hopes alive

Australia will take on Peru next week for a place at November's World Cup finals after beating the United Arab Emirates 2-1 on Tuesday in Asia's final eliminator for Qatar 2022. Defender Ali Salmeen deflected Ajdin Hrustic's volley past Khaled Eisa with six minutes remaining at Al Rayyan's Ahmad bin Ali Stadium to keep alive Australia's hopes of qualifying for a fifth consecutive World Cup finals. Jackson Irvine had put Graham Arnold's side in front with a close-range strike in the 53rd minute but Caio Canedo levelled four minutes later with an emphatic finish into the roof of Mathew Ryan's net. The Australians increased the pressure throughout the second half and it eventually paid off when Hrustic volleyed towards goal following Aaron Mooy's corner and the deflection off Salmeen proved decisive. "We showed good character, I think we dominated the majority of the game and we took the chances when they came," said Australia's Martin Boyle. "It's only a job half done. We have to dust ourselves down, prepare and we will go again."

"Above Everyone...": Ex-BCCI Selector Says Joe Root is "Far Ahead" Of Virat Kohli, Steve Smith And Kane Williamson

Joe Root is the toast of the cricket world right now after becoming only the 14th batter to score over 10,000 runs in Tests. He became just the second England batter after Alastair Cook to score 10,000 Test runs during a match-winning hundred against New Zealand at Lord's on Sunday. The 31-year-old Yorkshireman's typically composed 115 not out took England, who had been faltering at 69 for four, to a target of 277 and a five-wicket victory over the World Test champions with more than a day to spare.

Sri Lanka vs Australia: Wicket was slow, says Josh Hazlewood

Josh Hazlewood, who contributed to Australia's impressive win against Sri Lanka in the first T20I with his immaculate bowling, said the wicket was slow and he improvised his bowling. A superb 4/16 by Hazlewood and fifties from David Warner and Aaron Finch guided the Aussies to a 10-wicket win over Sri Lanka as they chased down the target of 129 runs with ease. With this, Australia lead the three-match series 1-0. "It is obviously quite hot here, quite sweaty. The wicket is slow, but you can use that to your advantage. The new ball flew off the bat a little bit, and we dragged it back (length). Have been working hard on my T20 game. Playing a lot of it. And we saw that tonight," said the pacer during a post-match conference. Coming to the match, chasing 129, Australia were off to a solid start. Openers Finch and Warner maintained strike rotation with some occasional big hits and good running between the wickets.
