NEW DELHI : Jasprit Bumrah is set to miss next month's Twenty20 World Cup in Australia, local media reported on Friday, after the Indian bowler was ruled out of the ongoing home series against South Africa with a back injury.
The All-India Senior Selection Committee on Friday named Mohammed Siraj as replacement for injured Jasprit Bumrah for the remainder of the T20I series against South Africa. The BCCI made the official announcement and they also provided an update on the extent of Bumrah's injury. "Bumrah has sustained a back injury and is currently under the supervision of the BCCI Medical Team," said the Indian cricket board in an official media release.

World Cup in Australia next month, but stress fractures cannot derail the star bowler's sparkling career, assures Dr Dinshaw Pardiwala, who is on the ICC medical advisory committee. "Stress fractures of the back are not career-threatening or career-ending. In most instances, once you rest and rehabilitate, you can return to complete normalcy. Although stress reactions heal quickly, stress fractures take a longer time and the recovery is frustratingly slow, because there's not too much that you can do except for unloading the area and subsequently gradually reintroducing loads once healing is complete. Stress fractures are unlike traumatic fractures and rest is a critical aspect of the treatment in these injuries. Once you do that, it recovers," Pardiwala explained to TOI.
Former selector Dilip Vengsarkar said that he would've picked young pacer Umran Malik in India's squad for the T20 World Cup, starting next month in Australia. Umran impressed everyone with his pace during the Indian Premier League season this year, picking up 22 wickets in 14 matches for SRH in IPL 2022. He was rewarded with a national call-up and made his debut against Ireland in June this year. Vengsarkar feels that this was the right time to pick the youngster as his sheer pace could've made the difference, especially with the tracks in Australia offering pace and bounce.
India Legends on Thursday reached the final of the Road Safety World Series after beating Australia Legends, courtesy of a special knock from all-rounder Irfan Pathan. With India Legends in trouble, Pathan played the finisher's role and smashed an unbeaten 39-run knock, smashing four sixes and two boundaries. Notably, he struck all sixes off Australia legend Dirk Nannes, one in the 17th over, followed by three more in the penultimate over of the match. With just one run needed off five deliveries, Pathan hit legendary Australia pacer Brett Lee for a four over midwicket to finish things off.
