No heroics from Anderson if Ashes deliver more 'kryptonite' pitches

James Anderson said the lifeless Edgbaston pitch in the Ashes opener was like "kryptonite" to him and fears he will be powerless to help England fight back against Australia if the surfaces in the remainder of the series are flat and slow.

Former Australia opener Matthew Hayden has lashed out at England pacer Ollie Robinson for his antics in the first Ashes Test, which the visitors won by two wickets earlier this week, at Edgbason. Robinson hogged all the limelight for his duels with Australia centurion Usman Khawaja, especially in the first innings. After dismissing Khawaja, who had already done the damage with his 141, Robinson was seen throwing expletives towards the Australian batter. He was also seen having an exchange with the veteran opener during the second innings.

India batter KL Rahul had picked up an injury in his right leg during IPL 2023 match between Lucknow Super Giants and Royal Challengers Bangalore. He was ruled out of the remainder of the tournament and then also could not be a part of the Indian squad which squared off against Australia in the World Test Championship final at The Oval. The 31-year-old batter had to go undergo a surgery and is currently working in his rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru.
