It was a huge moment for Sarfaraz Khan as the 26-year-old batter was handed his debut ahead of the third Test match between India and England in Rajkot on Thursday.

Sarfaraz enjoyed an exceptional run of form in the domestic circuit over the last couple of years and he was handed his Test cap by legendary spinner Anil Kumble just before the toss.

With Shreyas Iyer, Virat Kohli and KL Rahul all missing out, Sarfaraz will partner Rajat Patidar and fellow debutant Dhruv Jurel in the middle order.

Sarfaraz's father was present at the ground and he could not control his tears as he received his Test cap. India won the toss and elected to bat against England in the third Test of the five-match series.

Former India captain Anil Kumble has shared his views on young wicketkeeper batter Dhruv Jurel, following his brilliant show in the fourth Test against England in Ranchi. Jurel starred with the bat as India beat Engand by five wickets at the JSCA International Stadium on Monday. Jurel smashed a gritty 90 in the first innings, before scoring an unbeaten 39 to see help India chase down 192. In first-choice keeper Rishabh Pant's absence, Jurel has managed to make a strong case for himself as far as the Test team is concerned.

During England's second innings, Tom Hartley decided to attack Kuldeep Yadav and he slammed a delivery straight towards deep mid-on. The connection was not that great and Sarfaraz had to dive forward and complete a challenging catch. The youngster was extremely pleased with his effort and after completing the tough catch, he turned towards the crowd and blew a kiss in the air.

With Shoaib Bashir at the crease, Rohit wanted Sarfaraz to field at silly point to put pressure on the batter but the fielder took his position without a helmet. Rohit was quick to point out that he cannot field at such a dangerous position without a helmet as he said - "Aye bhai, hero nahi banne ka (hey brother, don't be a hero here)". The 12th man soon gave Sarfaraz a helmet as play resumed.
