Pakistan were given a wake-up call in their recent warm-up game against England on Monday ahead of the 2022 T20 World Cup. They misfired in all departments and lost the match by six wickets.

Though players like Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan did not play the game, the Pakistan XI had stars like Shan Masood, Shadab Khan, Asif Ali among others.

Pakistan managed to score 160/8 batting first, but England chased down the target in just 14.4 overs. They begin their 2022 T20 World Cup campaign against India and before that their fitness level has failed to impress Pakistan great Misbah-ul-Haq. Players like myself, Shoaib Malik, and Younus Khan were quite into fitness, and we used to push ourselves. Those who push others out of their limitations are not considered good trainers nor good coaches," Misbah, a format captain of the side, was quoted as saying by Cricket Pakistan. Zimbabwe punched above their weight and stunned Pakistan by one run in a nail-biting T20 World Cup match at the Optus Stadium in Perth on Thursday. Defending a modest 131, Zimbabwe stifiled the Pakistani batters and picked up wickets at regular intervals to stop their fancied rivals at 129 for eight. Pakistan-born all-rounder Sikandar Raza turned the match on its head in the middle overs with figures of 3 for 25 from his four overs, which included the wickets of Shan Masood (44), Shahdab Khan (17) and Haider Ali.
Despite the plethora of taltented batters at the 2022 T20 World Cup, Babar Azam is one batter whose performance will be closely watch. Pakistan ace pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi is gearing up for the T20 World Cup in Australia. The pacer had sustained an injury and thus missed the 2022 Asia Cup before also missing out on the seven-match home T20I series against England that his side won 4-3. Afridi's last appearance for Pakistan came in July this year but his presence in the T20 mega event will definitely boost the morale of the team. Pakistan's former pacer Mohammad Sami feels that the team was lacking a "strike bowler" in the absence of Shaheen.
