Stephen Kenny's son named in Northern Ireland squad

Eoin Kenny, the son of Republic of Ireland manager Stephen Kenny, has been called up to the Northern Ireland Under-18 squad.Kenny qualifies to play for Northern Ireland having been born in Derry during his father's time as manager of Derry City.The attacking midfielder plays for the Dundalk youth team, having come up the ranks through the Under-17s and is now lining out with the Under-19s.Kenny is one of three new faces in Gerard Lyttle’s squad.

Also included for the first time are Derry City defender Conor Barr and Accrington Stanley winger Lewis Trickett.They join the squad for two games against Manchester United's Under-18 side as part of the SuperCupNI tournament.Lyttle said: "My squads usually feature lots of players from NIFL Premiership and League of Ireland clubs so I see this as an opportunity for players based here to once again show what they can do."It will be a massive test for the boys against such highly rated opposition.

However, I have no doubt the players will rise to the occasion."There are U19 Euro qualifiers this autumn and I am sure the players in this squad will want to be part of that squad as well."Watch Ludogorets v Shamrock Rovers in the Champions League second qualifying round live on RTÉ2 and RTÉ Player on Tuesday, kick-off 6.45pm.
