COLOMBO : All-rounder Wanindu Hasaranga is "highly unlikely" to play in the 50-overs World Cup in India despite Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) making every effort to aid his bid to recover from a hamstring injury, according to media reports citing a team doctor. The spin-bowling all-rounder sustained the injury during the Lanka Premier League last month and missed the Asia Cup, where Sri Lanka finished runners-up behind India."We are consulting foreign doctors to see whether he needs surgery or not," SLC medical panel chief Arjuna de Silva told the Sunday Times newspaper."If he does, he will be out for at least three months. "At the moment, the situation is not that great and it’s highly unlikely if he can play the World Cup."Hasaranga's absence would be a major blow to the 1996 champions considering the 26-year-old was the leading wicket-taker in the last two T20 World Cups.Sri Lanka have until Sept.

28 to announce their 15-member squad for the World Cup, which begins on Oct. 5.De Silva said the SLC were doing everything possible to try to get Hasaranga fit to play some matches in the World Cup."Since he is a key weapon in our attack, we are looking at other options to see how best we can get his services at least for important games."All that depends on the opinions of the consultant to whom we are trying to show his reports."Fast bowler Dushmantha Chameera also risks missing the World Cup with a pectoral muscle injury."Chameera is bowling at the moment but still complains of pain," de Silva said."We have consulted a doctor in the United Kingdom to see how best we could treat him."

NEW DELHI : Visas have been issued for the Pakistan team for their participation in the 50-overs World Cup in India, the governing International Cricket Council (ICC) said on Monday, following complaints of a delay in the process.
Mohammed Siraj - that name will be spoken about a lot in the coming days ahead of Cricket World Cup. There are enough reasons. In the India vs Sri Lanka Asia Cup 2023 final in Colombo on Sunday, the 29-year-old right-arm pacer single-handedly broke the hosts' resistance with a fiery spell. At the end of the game, Siraj's figures read - 7-1-21-6. It was only the fourth time that an Indian bowler had taken a six-wicket haul in ODIs. Courtesy Siraj's bowling, India skittled out Sri Lanka for just 50 - the team's second-lowest score in ODIs.
Mohammed Siraj produced a bowling spell to remember as he took six wickets including four wickets in a single over during the Asia Cup 2023 final between India and Sri Lanka on Sunday. The fourth over of the match saw Siraj concede just four runs and take four wickets but he narrowly missed out on a hat-trick. He started with the wicket of Pathum Nissanka who played a loose shot and Ravindra Jadeja pulled off a brilliant catch at backward point. Sadeera Samarawickrama played out the next ball but the third ball of the over proved to be his end as he was trapped LBW by a lethal in-swinging delivery.
Revenge is a dish best served cold. The Indian cricket team might be thinking on these lines after they dismissed Sri Lanka for 50 in the Asia Cup 2023 final in Colombo on Sunday. This is the lowest total in an ODI tournament final. Sri Lanka broke the forgettable record held by India for 23 years. India were dismissed for 54 by Sri Lanka in Sharjah in 2000 in the final of the Champions Trophy. This is also the lowest ODI total by any team against India. Till Sunday, Bangladesh's 58 at Mirpur in 2014 was the lowest total against India.
It was a truly special performance from Mohammed Siraj as he completed a sensational five-wicket haul that included four wickets in one over during the Asia Cup 2023 final against Sri Lanka on Sunday. The Sri Lanka batters were left dumbstruck by the quality of Siraj's bowling as they had no answer for his disciplined display. After taking two wickets in the over, Dhananjaya De Silva connected with a full delivery from Siraj and with not many fielders in front of square, the fast bowler rushed towards the boundary and although he was not able to complete the save, his effort left Virat Kohli and his other teammates in splits.
