Shahid Afridi, a former Pakistani captain and one of the most lethal all-rounders in the world, has a lengthy history of controversy.

His confrontations with Gautam Gambhir and other Indian cricketers are well-known and receive millions of views on social media.

Afridi, a talented cricketer, made a comment that everyone found surprising, especially Indian fans. Afridi revealed that his daughter waved the Indian flag rather than the Pakistan flag during last week's Asia Cup 2022 match between India and Pakistan.

Shahid Afridi said on a Pakistani television channel that the stadium had only 10 per cent of Pakistani fans while 90 per cent of the fans were from India. "I came to know that there were more Indian fans there," he said in a programme that aired on Samaa TV.

Starting from the Asia Cup, Bhuvneshwar Kumar has come under much pressure. Though he took a five-wicket haul in the continental event in a match against Afghanistan, the veteran pacer was costly in the death overs. His poor bowling ended up being one of the reasons behind India not qualifying for the Asia Cup final. In the recently concluded T20I series against Australia, Bhuvneshwar played two matches and took one wicket. His economy was 13 RPO. Since he is a part of India's 15-member T20 World Cup squad, Bhuvneshwar's form is bound to increase the team management's concerns.
Former Pakistan all-rounder Shahid Afridi feels that the Pakistan cricket team needs a match-winning finisher like Hardik Pandya. When asked by a news anchor if he could see any match-winner down the order in the Pakistan batting line-up, Afridi admitted that the team lacks such a player. Afridi said that people were expecting players like Asif Ali or Khushdil to play that role for Pakistan but they both have been inconsistent with their performances. He added that even Mohammad Nawaz and Shadab Khan lack consistency.
Former Pakistan cricket team Shahid Afridi has accepted that he tampered the Faisalabad pitch during a Test match against England in 2005. Afridi, who was well known for his big-hitting as well as spin bowling, said that he was frustrated with the pitch which led to the action. He also added that ex-Pakistan skipper Shoaib Malik knew and encouraged him in the plan.
Former captain Shahid Afridi claimed that the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is not taking care of their star pacer Shaheen Afridi in his rehabilitation process. Shaheen, who has been named in Pakistan's T20 World Cup squad, left the team from UAE to go to England for treatment and recovery for a knee injury he had suffered during the Test series against Sri Lanka. However, PCB chief Ramiz Raja came out to deny that the board had "disowned" Shaheen, saying that it is unthinkable that the board would not take care of the star pacer, calling it an "unfortunate controversy".
Former Pakistan pacer Shoaib Akhtar expressed his disappointment on the country's selection committee over the squad picked for the T20 World Cup 2022. Pakistan on Thursday announced their team for the upcoming mega event that is slated to take place in October-November in Australia. The side will be led by Babar Azam, while Shadab Khan will be his deputy. The Pakistan squad for the world event looks quite similar to the one that competed in the recently-concluded Asia Cup.
Former Pakistan captain Wasim Akram has now reacted to the statement given by Shahid Afridi, where he said that pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi is paying for his own rehabilitation in England and is staying in the country on his own money. Akram said that if this is true then it is indeed shocking as Shaheen Afridi is a top player and is "box-office". He also said that it would be really unfair if the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is not looking after their main stars.
