Sam Bennett is targeting more Grand Tour success after signing a two-year deal with French team Decathlon Ag2r La Mondiale. The 2020 Tour de France Green Jersey winner has endured a frustrating couple of seasons with Bora-Hansgrohe, who he returned to for a second stint, having missed the 2021 Tour de France due to a knee injury.Injuries and illness have hampered him, but even when fit he was excluded from several Grand Tour squads and he will hope for a fresh start in 2024 with Decathlon Ag2r La Mondiale, where he will be their main sprinter. The Carrick-on-Suir cyclist said he grew up with an affection for the team."There are many things that influenced it," said Bennett. "But when I was a young amateur rider, I was watching Nico Roche and Philip Deignan in the team, and they are riders I looked up to."Then of course I saw the big opportunity to come to this team, to get an amazing race programme, to work with [bike manufacturer] Van Rysel, which is fantastic."I think it's the best environment for me to be in to reach my top level.
