India captain Rohit Sharma put all the pre-match talk about his performances against Pakistan pacers to bed, scoring a brilliant half-century in the Asia Super 4 clash on Sunday.

Though rain pushed the match into reserve day (Monday), Rohit had done enough to give India a fine start with the bat in the high-profile contest.

As Rohit went past the 50-run mark, he broke Sachin Tendulkar's record of scoring the most number of half-centuries in the ODI format of the Asia Cup for an Indian.

Rohit's 56-run knock from 49 balls was his 8th half-century in the ODI format of the Asia Cup. Tendulkar, on the other hand, has scored seven fifties in the continental tournament, in the 50-over format.

Rohit Sharma on Friday equalled Virat Kohli in the list of an unwanted record. The India captain scored a duck off two balls in the side's last match of Super 4 in Asia Cup 2023. It was Rohit's 15th duck in his 249-match ODI career. Interestingly, the number of times Rohit has been dismissed without scoring a run in ODI cricket is exactly same to that of Virat Kohli. While the list of most ducks in an ODI career is topped by Sri Lanka legend Sanath Jayasuriya (34), batting great Sachin Tendulkar with 20 such dismissals is at the helm when it comes to Indian players.
Dunith Wellalage had a great outing against Indian in Sri Lanka's Asia Cup 2023 Super 4 match on Tuesday. He accounted for the wickets of Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, KL Rahul and Hardik Pandya. On Thursday, the spinner got another big wicket in Babar Azam. In the 16th over, Babar got stumped by Dunith Wellalage. It was a stunning delivery from the spinner as he tossed it up around off stump. Babar moved forward, only to find the ball pitching and turning away. Sri Lanka wicketkeeper Kusal Mendis made not mistake and broke the stumps. Replays showed that Babar's back foot was in the air when the bails lit up. The Pakistan captain was shocked.
