A rape victim managed to record the assault on her phone. The crucial evidence led to her attacker being jailed for more than five years.
The woman was attacked after a night out in December 2021 in Congleton. After she passed the recording to Cheshire police, Daniel Shaw was arrested in April 2022.
When he was shown the video of the incident in interview, Shaw, of Lawton Street, Burslem, Staffordshire, confirmed it was him in the footage, but said he couldn't not recall what happened and was drunk at the time. Shaw, 32, appeared at Chester Crown Court, where he was sentenced to five years and six months. He was also made the subject of an indefinite restraining order and notification requirements for life.
