Proteas legend Hashim Amla has joined the Lions as the franchise's new batting coach.Amla became head coach Russell Domingo's first appointment since he took charge of the Gauteng-franchise in July.The former Proteas batter penned a three-year deal with the Lions.Amla, who played 124 Tests, 181 ODIs and 44 T20Is for the Proteas, will assist Domingo as the Lions vie for domestic titles in 2023/24.Amla, who worked as MI Cape Town's batting coach during the inaugural SA20, will work alongside Domingo in all three formats of the game for the Lions.He will assist a young and experienced Lions' batting arsenal, which include the likes of Rassie van der Dussen, Ryan Rickelton, Temba Bavuma, Reeza Hendricks and Mitchell van Buuren."I am truly delighted to work with Lions Cricket.
They are one of the largest Protea producing teams in the country and to work with their players is an honour," Amla said in a statement."Russell and I go back many years: I had him as a coach whilst with the Proteas and his experience as an international coach is something I am eager to team up with and share in.
