IMOLA, Italy : McLaren's Oscar Piastri was handed a three-place grid drop for impeding in qualifying for the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix on Saturday, dropping the Australian from the front row for Sunday's race to fifth.The penalty imposed by stewards means team mate Lando Norris, winner of the previous race in Miami, moves up alongside Red Bull's polesitter and championship leader Max Verstappen.Charles Leclerc will start third and team mate Carlos Sainz fourth in an all-Ferrari second row.

Ferrari's Charles Leclerc snatched pole position at his home Monaco Grand Prix on Saturday, as championship leader Max Verstappen could only finish sixth fastest. The 26-year-old Monegasque driver, who has never managed a podium finish at his home race, clocked a best lap of one minute and 10.270 seconds to outpace Australian Oscar Piastri of McLaren by 0.154 seconds. It brought Leclerc his third Monaco pole position and ended Verstappen's run of seven straight poles this year and a record-equalling eight in succession, shared with three-time champion Ayrton Senna.
Seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton topped the times ahead of Australian Oscar Piastri in an intriguing opening free practice for this weekend's Monaco Grand Prix. Hamilton clocked a best lap in his Mercedes of 1minute and 12.169 seconds to outpace McLaren's Piastri by 0.029sec with his 'silver arrows' team-mate George Russell third. Lando Norris was fourth in the second McLaren ahead of local favourite Charles Leclerc in the leading Ferrari, two-time champion Fernando Alonso and his Aston Martin team-mate Lance Stroll.
