Manchester United supporters are demanding a quick solution to the Cristiano Ronaldo saga amid the expectation he will not be available for the Premier League curtain raiser against Brighton.

Ronaldo, 37, did not board the plane to Thailand and Australia with his United teammates due to a pressing family matter and the club formally accepted that reason for his absence.

However, speculation over his future at United remains at fever pitch and the five-time Ballon d'Or winner has expressed a desire to leave.

United insist Ronaldo will not be sold and will seek clarification talks in the coming days. Brighton visit Old Trafford on Sunday, August 7 and the Portugal captain has yet to lace up his boots this summer - throwing his availability in the build-up to those early games into doubt.
