Nick Walsh named Celtic vs Rangers referee for opening Scottish Premiership derby

dailyrecord.co.uk

Nick Walsh has been named referee for Saturday's crunch opening Old Firm derby of the season as champions Celtic host fierce rivals Rangers at Parkhead for a lunchtime showdown.

Walsh was handed his first ever derby in 2021 when Steven Gerrard's Light Blues romped to a 4-1 Scottish Premiership victory over the Hoops at Ibrox.

He sent off Callum McGregor in that encounter. Now the SFA have put their faith in the 31-year for the opening meeting of the season between the bitter rivals for what is sure to be a huge pressure match for the man in black.

Experienced referee Bobby Madden was handed two derby clashes last season but he has since moved south of the border to ply his trade in the English leagues.
