Manchester is fizzing with political debate this week - so what do its residents think about the Conservatives, Rishi Sunak and Labour?

The streets of the city centre are fizzing with political debate. Manchester, once again, is hosting the Conservative Party Conference.

As the Prime Minister and a throng of cabinet members, MPs and delegates embarked on an intense program of speeches, media appearances and fringe events, thousands took to the streets to make their voices heard.

While Rishi Sunak spoke at his first conference event, the noise outside was deafening. Demonstrators in their droves made sure the PM was given a less than warm welcome. READ MORE: Mancunian issues dominated Tory conference's opening day The city was paved with protest as the issues of the day - the NHS in peril; the cost of living crisis; HS2; housing; and more - were spelled out on the banners held aloft by activists, union members and everyday folk.

The political spotlight is on our city - for four days, at least. As Mr Sunak prepared to give his first Tory conference speech, the Manchester Evening News set about gauging the feeling inside and outside Manchester Central.
