Harshal Patel, who missed the Asia Cup with injuries were predictably back as the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the 15-member squad for the T20 World Cup.

All-rounder Ravindra Jadeja, who recently had a knee surgery after a 'freak' injury failed to make the cut, as reported first by TOI.

The team for the T20 World Cup will be led by Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul will be his deputy in the marquee tournament which will take place in Australia, starting October 16.

India will play their first match against Pakistan on October 23. Bumrah, who was suffering from a back injury and Harshal, who had a side strain, had done an intense rehabilitation programme at the National Cricket Academy and the BCCI medical team has deemed them fit for the marquee series.

Rohit Sharma still has a few issues to iron out going into the T20 World Cup Down Under next month. Rohit is unperturbed as he has three matches against South Africa to look forward to and he knows the strength of his side. A perfect team man, the Mumbaikar is known to back his players and is willing to go the extra mile to 'accommodate' some of his teammates, who are a wee bit off colour. The 2022 T20 World Cup is just a month away. All teams are in the final phase of the preparation. The Rohit Sharma-led Indian team is also gearing up for the mega event with two bilateral series against Australia and South Africa. Apart for the 15 members in the main squad, the selectors also announced four standby players, which include veteran paceman Mohammed Shami, all-rounder Deepak Chahar, spinner Ravi Bishnoi and top order batter Shreyas Iyer. Bishnoi was part of the team that played in the Asia Cup and bowled with a lot of heart.
India will look to sort out their combinations, especially in the middle-order, while giving a final shape to their plans and preparations for the T20 World Cup when a three-match home series against Australia begins here Tuesday. Though a few fast bowlers will be rested over the course of six games before the World Cup -- three matches against South Africa to follow after the Australia series -- India have a full strength squad at their disposal to finalise combinations.
The All-India Senior Selection Committee had announced the T20 World Cup squad earlier this week, and the likes of Jasprit Bumrah and Harshal Patel made their comeback from respective injuries. Ravindra Jadeja is not a part of the squad, as he got injured during the Asia Cup and then he underwent a surgery. Former Sri Lanka captain Mahela Jayawardena has said that Jadeja not being available will be a "massive loss" for Team India.
