Hythe Town manager Ira Jackson determined to turn things around at Reachfields amid calls to resign

Ira Jackson remains confident he is the right man to transform Hythe’s fortunes.

Boss Jackson says he was subjected to “sacked in the morning” chants and calls to resign as the Cannons lost 3-0 at home to Tunbridge Wells in the Southern Counties East Premier Division on Saturday.

It’s been a challenging start to management for the 28-year-old, who’s attempting to rebuild the club with a young side following relegation from Isthmian South East.

But the former Grimsby and Folkestone forward retains faith in his ability to lead Hythe up the table.

He said: “As much as I understand people’s frustration, I don’t think anybody’s more frustrated than me because of what I want to achieve here.

“I’m not here just to have a job, I want to win, I’m here to improve players and to make the team better and to give the fans a team they can be proud of.

“At the moment I’m failing to deliver that but one thing about me is I don’t fail, so that won’t last long.

“I understand frustration, I understand emotion, I understand people’s calls for me to resign, but everything has to be viewed in context.

“We have to look at the fact that the last few games have been better and if we’d taken our chances, we would have got the results we deserved.

“We didn’t perform well in the second half against Tunbridge Wells and got punished for that.

“I wouldn’t still be here if I didn’t believe that things could turn around.

“It’s fine margins and we should be able to make those up.

“Once we do, and we get a couple of wins under our belt, the complete picture changes.

“I feel the worst because I know how much is being put in, how much trust, how much confidence is being put in, and how much stuff we’re doing behind the scenes.
