A healthy contingent of Holcombe players helped lead England men’s hockey team to Commonwealth Games bronze on Monday. They bounced back from their narrow weekend semi-final loss against Australia to beat South Africa 6-3 in Birmingham.

Goalkeeper Ollie Payne and Nick Bandurak were involved while Phil Roper - who is due to join Holcombe after a spell in the Netherlands - struck twice.

England’s other semi-final goals came from Zach Wallace, Rhys Smith, Liam Ansell and Sam Ward. The men’s hockey bronze came after the gold won by the women's side a day earlier, with Canterbury’s Grace Balsdon one of the England players to end up with a gold medal.
