A mum has spoken of her pain after her young daughter was groomed and sexually assaulted. Gary Cook, 37, from Oldham, was sentenced to five years at Minshull Street Crown Court after being convicted of sexual assault - following the incident in March last year.
The girl informed her father of Cook's behaviour after he removed part of her clothing and sexually assaulted her. He also installed an app on a device used by the girl so he could monitor her. "My daughter is completely changed, it's absolutely devastating," she said. "The whole time he was on bail was unbearable.
Now everything has changed for her. "The whole thing has been incredibly upsetting for her. I just have total anger. I can’t believe it.
He has taken my daughter’s innocence away from her. She is getting a bit older now and it is becoming more obvious what he did to her." Cook, of no fixed abode, was given a five-year sentence and will serve half in custody before being released on licence.
