Folkestone Invicta manager Jay Saunders to make most of Isthmian Premier title celebrations as side eye two points required from games against St Albans City and Ramsgate

Jay Saunders is determined to make the most of Folkestone’s title celebrations when they come.

The Isthmian Premier leaders require just two points from their final five fixtures of the season ahead of two matches in 48 hours.

They start with this Saturday’s journey to St Albans before they host Ramsgate on Easter Monday.

There will, naturally, be plenty of other commitments for Invicta boss Saunders to undertake once the club’s inaugural promotion to National League South is confirmed - but they can wait for a while after the full-time whistle as far as the manager is concerned.

Saunders, who led Maidstone from the old Ryman South to the National League between 2013 and 2016, said: “I want to enjoy it.

“I hope it comes. With my last three or four promotions I have had as a manager, I have probably missed out on a lot of the celebrations.

“I have been busy, talking to you fellas [the media]. But if we get over the line, I want to make sure we enjoy it.

“The boys and the club deserve it.

"It’s a weird feeling for me as a manager because, with my football head, we’re not there. We have just got to concentrate on this weekend.

“Then, we will enjoy ourselves.”

Folkestone will be confirmed as champions, regardless of the result at Clarence Park, if second-placed Aveley fail to beat fellow play-off occupants Chatham on the same afternoon.

Saunders intends to speak to Chats boss Kevin Hake in the build-up to this weekend as he looks for his team to potentially do Invicta a favour.

He said: “It’s only Aveley, who can catch us now.

“So, I’ll be onto Kev to do us a favour! Hopefully, we can get over the line.

"But St Albans won’t be easy.”
