Faversham Town manager Tommy Warrilow on midfielder James Dyer’s early impact, a 2-2 derby draw at Margate, defender Frankie Smith’s recent arrival and a Swale derby at Sittingbourne

James Dyer is already fitting into Faversham’s style of play, according to boss Tommy Warrilow.

Attacking midfielder Dyer has hit the ground running. His goal in Tuesday’s comeback 2-2 Isthmian South East derby draw at Margate was his third in just five appearances for the Lilywhites.

“He’s such a fit lad,” said Warrilow. “I think the way we play will suit him.

“There’s bits to do off the ball but I think, going forward, he’s getting used to getting into the areas we want him to get into. He’s arriving at the right times and his runs are excellent.

“The most important thing for him is to play regularly again, have a smile on his face and enjoy his football - and he’s definitely doing that.”

Trailing 2-0 at Hartsdown Park, 22-year-old Dyer pulled one back and substitute Johan Caney-Bryan came up with an injury-time equaliser.

But Warrilow, whose team won 3-2 against Beckenham through two-goal Tashi-Jay Kwayie and Dyer last weekend, reflected: “I’m disappointed.

“I thought, first half, we started well. It was much of a muchness and the only difference was the goal, which was a really scrappy goal. It’s a corner and a shot that’s been parried into the air, and it’s hit his head and gone in.

“One of those free headers in the six-yard box so that was disappointing. Then, the half went end-to-end and was very stop-start, which was frustrating.

“In the second half, we have come out and, again, started well. But they’ve got a goal that we really should be clearing. The lad has come in and said ‘I’ve just dwelled on it a bit’ - and they tapped it in.

“After that, we totally dominated the half. We were attacking and got a couple of chances where we just didn’t get our touches right on a few.
