India's Under-19 World Cup winning captain Unmukt Chand is all set to play against the senior national men's team in the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024.

The mega event that kicks off on June 1 in United States is set to witness one of the rare moments where a player will be playing against his former national team.

Chand, who retired from Indian cricket in 2021, will qualify to play for the United States cricket team in March this year. He said that he is keen to test himself against a team like India. "Something which would be very strange (laughs), but I think since I've retired from India, my next goal was always to sort of play against India, and not in any bad blood but keen to test myself out against the best team in the world," Chand told Cricbuzz.

Meanwhile, Harmeet Singh and Smit Patel, both of who were also part of the 2012 World Cup where Unkukt led the side to the title, will also be seen playing against India at the world event in June.

"In 2023 (final) at Ahmedabad, even though we did not win the World Cup after 10 straight wins, we won hearts. India's centrally contracted players will have to mandatorily play red-ball cricket in domestic circuit and the BCCI will not tolerate any excuses for the same, said secretary Jay Shah in Rajkot on Wednesday. Interacting with the media on the sidelines of the renaming of the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium, Shah said the chairman of selectors will be given a free hand to take a call on his own if a player refuses to follow instructions given by the team management.
BCCI secretary Jay Shah on Wednesday confirmed that Rohit Sharma will lead the Indian cricket team in the upcoming T20 World Cup being jointly hosted by the West Indies and the USA. With all-rounder Hardik Pandya still recovering from an ankle injury suffered in October last year, the board feels Rohit must continue as skipper in the format. "Rohit was captaining (in the past in other formats) and he came back for the Afghanistan series, which means we were going to let him continue forward," Shah told the media on the sidelines of the ceremony to rename the SCA Stadium after former board secretary Niranjan Shah.
India will be playing the T20 World Cup 2024, to be organised in the Caribbean and the USA, under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma, said BCCI secretary Jay Shah at an event in Rajkot on Wednesday. India have had Hardik Pandya as their full-time skipper in the shortest format but the heartbreaking loss in the final of the 2023 World Cup to Australia have reignited the murmurs of senior batters Virat Kohli and Rohit returning for the T20 showpiece in June.
