Proteas skipper Dean Elgar believes that a lack of experience played a massive role as South Africa hurtled towards a Test series loss against England at the Oval. With the series level at 1-1, Elgar's side succumbed to an all-round clinical performance from the home side as they clinched a nine-wicket win in the final Test at The Oval.England went on to win the three-match Test series 2-1 inside three days after day one was washed out and day two suspended following the death of Queen Elizabeth II.The Proteas' batting inexperience was evident as the tourists were bundled out for 118 and 169.

Needing only 130 for the Test win, opener Zak Crawley scored an unbeaten half-century to steer England home. Elgar, who top-scored with 36 for the Proteas at The Oval, insists conditions were tough and that SA's lack of experience resulted in their poor showing in England."I think the lack of experience and exposure in Test and UK conditions, that kind of work hand-in-hand.

We were exposed to the toughest batting conditions throughout the Test, the ball was nipping quite a lot," Elgar told reporters on Monday."It was tough conditions for myself and I've got a decent amount of experience so I can only imagine how the guys who've played one or two Tests feel.

It was tough all around."England has now won six of their seven Tests under the new leadership pairing of captain Ben Stokes and coach Brendon McCullum.Meanwhile, defeat means South Africa have suffered their first Test series loss since Elgar took over as captain last year.READ | Stokes vows no let-up in England's attacking approach after series win against SAElgar says that England was just too good and controlled every aspect of the game."I think they thought relatively good

England needed just 25 minutes at the Oval to complete a nine-wicket win over the Proteas in barely more than two days' actual playing time that secured a 2-1 series victory. It also meant England had won six out of seven Tests under a new leadership duo of Stokes and coach Brendon McCullum -- a far cry from a record of one win in 17 matches that marked the end of Joe Root's reign as skipper. New Zealand, the World Test champions were beaten 3-0 before England defeated India in a one-off Test, held over from last year because of coronavirus concerns in the Indian camp, prior to seeing off the Proteas. All of those triumphs were marked by a willingness to engage in dashing run-chases, while removing as much pressure from players as possible, albeit much of England's success, as South Africa captain Dean Elgar noted, was built on traditional fundamentals of the red-ball game.
South Africa's batting came under massive scrutiny after a horrid performance saw them lose the three-match Test series 2-1 against England.
Proteas skipper Dean Elgar hailed all-rounder Marco Jansen's mentality following South Africa's loss in the third Test against England at The Oval on Monday.
After England came from behind to beat South Africa 2-1 in the final series of the summer – three matches across which they scored at 4.09 runs per over, a figure only exceeded in their entire history by the 4.54 they reached when New Zealand were beaten earlier this summer – Joe Root believes his team are making Test cricket so exciting that the Hundred might end up redundant.
Ben Stokes: 149 runs at 37.3; 10 wickets at 15.7; one catchIf he threw his wicket away too often, when he really needed to build an innings, he delivered the best knock of the series with a superbly constructed century at Old Trafford. At times, he was unplayable at second change, a ferocious strike bowler swinging and seaming an old ball and a parsimonious stock bowler, maintaining a threat while choking off the runs. Lest we forget, he also engineered a 2-1 win from the wreckage of an innings defeat at Lord’s and has earned the right to meet criticism of his all-out attacking philosophy and loyalty to his players by simply directing his critics to the scorebook.
