West Ham manager David Moyes has lauded the "outstanding" Erling Haaland after his side were defeated 2-0 by Manchester City on the opening weekend of the Premier League season.

Haaland scored a brace to earn his side the three points, converting from the penalty spot in the first half before adding a second following a superb Kevin De Bruyne through-ball.

It was Haaland's second goal that particularly impressed Moyes, although the former Manchester United manager did feel like his side could have dealt with it better. "Well, I don’t really want to talk about other team’s players but we watched him from a distance and it looks like he’s going to be an outstanding player," Moyes told Sky Sports after the game. Haaland could have arguably scored a hat-trick, but he spurned a couple of chances in the second half before he was replaced by Julian Alvarez.

The win sees City start the new season with a win for the first time since 2020 after they lost at Tottenham on the opening day of last season.
