BBC Breakfast pauses live show for major breaking news announcement

During Wednesday's (October 29) edition of BBC Breakfast, host Ben Thompson interrupted the programme to deliver crucial breaking news to viewers. This follows the announcement that one presenter on the show is expecting their second baby.

He informed those tuning in: "Some breaking news for you at this point in the morning.

"The government have just announced that in the last few minutes, Hadush Kebatu, the migrant sex offender, who was wrongly released from prison, has been deported from the UK."

Turning to the BBC's political correspondent Henry Zeffman, Ben enquired whether any additional details could be shared.

Henry confirmed to Ben that Kebatu had touched down in Ethiopia on a flight this morning, having left the UK the previous evening, reports the Express.

The BBC journalist then revealed to audiences that Hadush was subsequently detained in London on Sunday (October 26) morning and has now been removed from the country.

Citing a statement from Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood, it read: "Last week's blunder should never have happened and I share the public's anger that it did.

"I have pulled every lever to deport Mr Kebatu and remove him off British soil. I am pleased to confirm this vile child sex offender has been deported. Our streets are safer because of it."
