Team India is ready to face Sri Lanka in a white-ball series, which will kick-start from Saturday with a three T20I matches.

After the retirement of skipper Rohit Sharma from the shortest format, there was a lot of chatter regarding a perfect replacement for the captaincy.

As it appeared, all-rounder Hardik Pandya was looking like an obvious choice but the newly-appointed head coach Gautam Gambhir and chief selector Ajit Agarkar named batter Suryakumar Yadav as the captain for the T20Is against Sri Lanka.

After the announcement, some discussions are going on about star pacer Jasprit Bumrah not being considered for the position of the captain.

With some of the India regulars, except pacer Jasprit Bumrah and senior spinner Ravichandran Ashwin, likely to appear in the first round of the Duleep Trophy, the BCCI has decided to shift one of the opening matches from Anantapur to Bengaluru. Senior batters Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma also might get an exemption, and the choice of appearing in the tournament is entirely on them. The Duleep Trophy was earlier scheduled to kick-off with two sets of first round matches at Anantapur in Andhra Pradesh from September 5, but now one of those games has been shifted to the M Chinnaswamy Stadium here to reduce the logistical inconveniences.
Former Indian coach and skipper Rahul Dravid opened up on his lowest point as Men in Blue's head coach, revealing it to be India's series loss to South Africa back in the 2021-22 season. Back in 2021-22, under Virat Kohli's captaincy, the Men in Blue had a serious chance to defeat the Proteas in a series at their home territory for the first-time ever. After a thumping 113 win at Centurion in the first Test, Men in Blue was expected to dominate the series. But with two seven wicket wins in the next two Tests, the Proteas earned a commendable come-from-behind triumph despite India dominating both matches at some point. This was Virat's last assignment as Test captain.
Young Kolkata Knight Riders batter Angkrish Raghuvanshi recently came under scrutiny for mocking Indian badminton star Saina Nehwal in a now-deleted social media post. Raghuvanshi's statement came after Nehwal claimed that sports like badminton, tennis, basketball are physically tougher than cricketers, while also criticising the fans for always prioritising the gentleman's game over the other sports. Reacting to her comments, Raghuvanshi had taken a jibe at Nehwal on social media platform.

Indian skipper Rohit Sharma termed the 32-run defeat against Sri Lanka in the second ODI as hurting, and said there will be discussions about the way batters played in the middle-overs on Sunday. India were jolted by leg-spinner Jeffrey Vandersay's six-wicket haul, and were bowled out for 208 while chasing 241, once again exposing their fragility against spin. "When you lose a game, everything hurts. It's not just about those 10 overs (when India lost six wickets for 50 runs). You have to play consistent cricket and we failed to do that. Little disappointed but these things happen," said Rohit in the post-match presentation ceremony. "We weren't good enough. Don't want to look too much into how we played. But there'll be talks about our batting in the middle overs," he added.
Former India head coach Ravi Shastri stopped just short of calling Jasprit Bumrah a magician with the ball and said the pacer's standout moments in the T20 World Cup in the Americas were India managing to thwart Pakistan's charge in the group stage and Rohit Sharma's side pulling the rabbit out of the hat in the final against South Africa. India managed to defend a paltry 119 in their Group A clash against the arch-rivals, winning the contest by six runs with Bumrah changing the momentum of the game by getting rid of the dangerous Mohammad Rizwan to send Pakistan into a free fall when they were chugging along nicely at 80/3.
