Manchester City are expected to open contract negotiations with Julián Álvarez at the end of the season. City signed the striker for £14 million only a year ago — he spent six months of that period back on loan at River Plate in Argentina — but the Premier League champions have been impressed by his development.
Álvarez’s present deal runs until the summer of 2027. The 22-year-old has scored eight goals and set up two more in 23 appearances, most of which have come from the bench.
He was one of the star performers in Argentina’s World Cup triumph, scoring four goals in the tournament in Qatar. It has become customary in recent years for City to extend the contracts of their most promising players
