Jurgen Klopp addresses Darwin Nunez and Thiago Alcantara fitness concerns

Jurgen Klopp says both Darwin Nunez and Thiago Alcantara felt potential injury problems during the win over West Ham on Wednesday night, but both are expected to be fine.

The Reds beat the Hammers 1-0 in a very close contest on Merseyside, with Nunez scoring the only goal of the game.

The Uruguayan striker was replaced 57 minutes into the game, though, replaced by Harvey Elliott, while Thiago was replaced by Fabinho a minute later.

Klopp admits that both men were feeling muscular discomfort during the match, but the substitutions were precautions and both should be fine to feature at the weekend against Nottingham Forest.

‘Thiago stretched once on the pitch which was, for me, a warning sign,’ Klopp told Amazon Prime after the win. ‘Meanwhile we have to react to everything, so it was clear we had to change him.

‘Darwin at half time everyone said no it’s fine, it’s fine but when someone’s on the bed for five minutes [with a hamstring complaint], we’re concerned as well. It was a precaution.

‘They are all okay. I think we picked them all [to come off] in the right moment.’

Klopp’s side have made it back-to-back victories after beating Manchester City on Sunday and have climbed to seventh in the table as a result.

Klopp will be thrilled that neither Nunez nor Thiago are injured as he is dealing with a number of players already sidelined, with Diogo Jota, Luis Diaz, Joel Matip, Naby Keita, Ibrahima Konate and Athur Melo all out.
