Gareth Southgate vowed to keep England’s players believing despite defeat in Italy leaving the country on their worst run of form in competitive matches in 30 years.

Southgate, the England manager, was booed for the second match running by fans after the 1-0 loss which relegated England to tier B of the Uefa Nations League and pot two in qualification for Euro 2024 qualifying.
