Fairleigh Dickinson stun Purdue in one of NCAA tournament’s greatest upsets
No 16 Fairleigh Dickinson have defeated No 1 Purdue 63-58 in one of the greatest upsets in NCAA tournament history.
The unfancied Knights led at halftime and held on to see off the top-seeded Boilermakers, who were one of the most popular picks to win the title.
Purdue, led by consensus player of the year Zach Edey, were sent packing from the NCAA tournament by a double-digit seed for a third consecutive year.
“We just had faith in what we do,” FDU coach Tobin Anderson said. “Our guys are so tough and competitive. I love our guys. They’re tough and gritty and they played their tails off. That’s an unbelievable win. We just shocked the world.”
