Classified football results: BBC condemned for excluding elderly and partially sighted listeners

The BBC’s decision to stop broadcasting the classified football results on Radio 5 Live will exclude elderly and partially sighted fans, charities have warned.

The Corporation has received hundreds of complaints and faced a social-media backlash in response to its decision to scrap the service from 5 Live’s Saturday evening Sports Report programme, a tradition that began in the 1950s, but said on Wednesday that it would not go back on its decision.

The 5pm reading of the results was omitted, without warning, from Saturday’s programme, the first of the new football season, and multiple charities have condemned the BBC’s decision.
