'If Everybody Saying Same Thing Then It Can't Be A Lie': Vinesh Phogat On Wrestlers' Allegations Against WFI

Thanking all the people and sportspersons who supported their protest against the Wrestling Federation Of India, Vinesh Phogat said on Sunday that they don't have to prove that they are telling the truth and if everybody is saying the same thing then it cannot be a lie. Vinesh Phogat was present at a Sports Conclave in Kolkata and spoke to ANI. "If everybody is speaking the same thing then it can't be a lie. Nobody can prove it if anybody can prove it then do it in front of us. We don't have to prove that we are telling the truth. If you haven't done anything wrong then prove it. We are waiting for you." Ministry Unhappy With Top Wrestlers For Skipping International Meets

The Sports Ministry is apparently livid with country's top wrestlers for opting out of international events in the wake of their ongoing stand-off with the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) and its chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh. The top wrestlers including Vinesh Phogat, Bajrang Punia, Ravi Dahiya, Deepak Punia, Anshu Malik and Sangita Mor have skipped UWW Ranking Series events in Zagreb and Alexandria as a probe panel is investigating the sexual abuse allegations against WFI chief, who has stepped aside pending enquiry.

Oversight Committee Clears Contingent Of 27 Wrestlers To Participate In 2nd Ranking Series

The Oversight Committee of Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports (MYAS) has cleared a contingent of 43 members including 27 wrestlers to participate in the upcoming 2nd Ranking Series 'Ibrahim-Moustafa' tournament. The event, which would take place in Alexandria, Egypt from 23rd-26th February will be crucial to gain ranking points for better seeding at the Senior Asian Championships 2023 and the Senior World Championships 2023.

Top India wrestlers opt out of another international meet

After pulling out from the Zagreb Open, earlier this month, top wrestlers Vinesh, Bajrang, Ravi Dahiya, Deepak Punia, Anshu Malik, Sangeeta Phogat and Sangita Mor have once again decided to sit out, saying they are not ready for the competition.The Ibrahim-Moustafa tournament will be held in Alexandria, Egypt from February 23 to 26.The Mary Kom-headed oversight committee managing the WFI affairs cleared a contingent of 27 Indian wrestlers for the upcoming tournament.

Wrestlers Acted In Personal Interest To Malign Current Management: Federation

The Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) on Saturday officially responded to the Sports Ministry on the allegations of sexual misconduct by its coaches and president Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh. The reply comes after the wrestlers' protest was called off early on Saturday after assurance by union sports minister Anurag Thakur than an oversight committee would look into their allegations and complete an investigation in four weeks. The minister had added that Brij Bhushan would step aside from his post in the WFI till the time the probe is completed.

After getting assurances that their grievances would be addressed, wrestlers called off their protest following the second round of meeting with union sports minister Anurag Thakur that ended after midnight on Saturday. The minister assured the wrestlers, which included big names like Olympic medallists Bajrang Punia and Sakshi Malik, World Championship medallist Vinesh Phogat, among others that investigation with regards to their allegations of sexual misconduct against Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) coaches and president Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh will be completed in four weeks. An oversight committee will be formed to investigate the allegations, Thakur added. WFI chief Brij Bhushan will step aside till the time the oversight committee completes its investigation.

Indian Olympic Association (IOA) president PT Usha on Thursday said she is "deeply concerned and disturbed" by the sexual harassment allegations by renowned wrestlers against Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) president Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, saying the national Olympic body will do everything possible to safeguard the interest of the country's women athletes. Celebrated Indian wrestlers, including Olympic medallist Bajrang Punia and Sakshi Malik besides Vinesh Phogat and others are staging a sit-in protest for the last two days at Jantar Mantar here against the WFI president, accusing him of sexual exploitation and intimidation and have demanded that the federation be disbanded.
