With the biggest purse going into the WPL auction on Saturday, last edition's wooden-spooner Gujarat Giants will look to plug the holes ahead of the 2024 edition of the league, while the four other teams will be keen to fine-tune their squads. Gujarat Giants finished fifth and last in the inaugural edition in March, while another high-profile team Royal Challengers Bangalore finished fourth. A total of 165 players -- 104 Indians and 61 overseas, including 15 from Associate nations -- will be in contention for the 30 spots, including nine for overseas in the Women's Premier League (WPL) mini-auction.

Leaving Tragedies Behind, Veda Krishnamurthy Desperate To Revive Career Through WPL

Tragedies and snubs are nothing new for Veda Krishnamurthy as she has seen it all in the last three years, but the out-of-favour India cricketer is desperate to make a fresh start and has pinned her hopes on the upcoming WPL to regain her spot in the national women's side. Having got a snub in the inaugural Women's Premier League auction earlier this year, a leaner and much fitter Veda is now hoping to earn a WPL contract on Saturday, an opportunity which can open the national team's door for her. "I feel that the ability and experience I have will not take much time for me to get into a system and adjust again. It is all about going there and showcasing whatever I can," Veda told PTI in an exclusive interview.

Delhi Capitals are all geared up to strengthen their squad in the Auction for the Women's Premier League 2024 set to be held in Mumbai on Saturday. The Delhi-based franchise, which has retained 15 players, has to acquire three players to complete their squad for the WPL. It has a remaining purse of Rs 2.25 crore ahead of the Auction. WPL 2024 May Follow Multi-City Format; Mumbai, Bengaluru Front-Runners

The second edition of the Women's Premier League (WPL) is likely to follow a multi-city format similar to the IPL and the matches may be played across Mumbai and Bengaluru. All the matches of the inaugural WPL was played between March 4 and 26 earlier this year at the DY Patil Stadium and the Brabourne Stadium. “The final decision (about venues) might come on December 9 (the day of the WPL auction) but it is highly likely that this year it (WPL) will follow the multi-city format with Mumbai and Bengaluru being the front-runners at this moment,” a BCCI official told PTI on conditions of anonymity. “The WPL was received well by the fans in the opening year, and it is the right time to take it to different cities. Bengaluru always has a good audience for women's cricket, and it has now grown because of the RCB women's team.” Mumbai and Karnataka cricket association officials too expressed readiness to host the matches, if indeed they come their way.
