Shubman Gill At No. 3, Left-Right Opening Combination vs WI: Rohit Sharma's Major Announcements

For the first Test against West Indies that starts on Wednesday, India will see a new opening combination. India captain Rohit Sharma on Tuesday announced that talented youngster Shubman Gill will bat at No. 3 slot. In the past, Shubman has opened for India and has achieved much success in his 16-Test career so far. Sharma also announced that India will see a left-right opening combination. Also, two spinners will be in the XI.

"I have a lot of respect for Chesteshwar Pujara for what he has achieved. He has been an unsung hero of Indian team for many years now. He has been one of those pillars of strength for India, doing the dirty work of hanging in there, making sure other batters got their comfort," Harbhajan was blunt as ever in his assessment in an interview to PTI.

Speaking to media ahead of the first Test against West Indies in Dominica, Rahane, however, wasn't entirely pleased with a reporter asking him about his comeback "at this age".

Ajinkya Rahane truly made a dramatic comeback to the Indian team, forcing his way into the Test side courtesy of prolific performances in domestic cricket and the Indian Premier League. After leaving a big impression in the World Test Championship final against Australia, albeit in a losing case, Rahane is ready to show what he has got in the Test assignment against West Indies. Though the right-handed batter is 35 years old, he still sees himself as a youngster who is hungry for runs and success.

Ahead of the first Test against West Indies, Indian vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane said that his side is not going to take the Windies lightly despite their recent struggles, which also include not being able to secure a spot for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023, and missing out on the global cricketing extravaganza for the first time ever. India will kick off its ICC World Test Championship 2023-25 campaign with a two-Test series against West Indies, with the first Test from Wednesday in Dominica.

Team India is all set to take on the West Indies in the first Test, starting July 12 in Dominica. It will be the first game for the side since the World Test Championship final against Australia that ended on June 11. The Indian team has already reached Dominica and started the training at the venue.
