Swiss tennis legend Roger Federer is to retire after next week's Laver Cup after admitting on Thursday his battles with a knee problem had forced him to call time on his historic career. "The Laver Cup next week in London will be my final ATP event," he said in a statement posted on social media. The 41-year-old winner of 20 Grand Slam titles has been out of action since a quarter-final loss at Wimbledon in 2021, after which he underwent his third knee surgery in 18 months. "The last 24 years on tour have been an incredible adventure," he wrote.
The fifth edition of the Laver Cup will take place in London over three days with Team Europe looking to defend their title against Team World. First held in 2017, the Laver Cup is tennis’ version of golf’s Ryder Cup – a team format which sees points won for the victor of each match. The allrounder underwent a knee surgery last week and also to Instagram to post a photograph along with a caption in which he informed his fans that his surgery was successful. "The surgery was successful. There are many people to thank for their support and involvement - BCCI, my teammates, support staff, physios, doctors and the fans. I will start my rehab soon and try to get back to cricket soon as I can. Thank you to everyone for your kind wishes," Jadeja wrote on Instagram.
